How much of the photos you posted on Nowthisisgothic is in the book Some Wear Leather, Some Wear Lace?
Only about 20. The book has more than 200 photos. It wasn’t the goal to transfer the entire content of this blog to a book, but to find photos that were quality enough to be published. Not for nothing we spend 1.5 years on research.
Why is it worth it to buy the book?
Because a lot of images about goths floating on the internet are bad quality and the ones in the books are not?
Also, this subculture needs its own book after being neglected or harrased by so many writers. So no book written by someone who is at major distance and makes ridiculous claims about stuff (s)he doesn’t know anything about. Instead the writers of SWL/SWL asked people from back in the day to tell what it was like, and this forms the core of the book.
My copy of Some Wear Leather, Some Wear Lace arrived yesterday, and it is a delight. It’s a wonderful visual compendium of the history of the roots of postpunk and early gothic.
Just muttered “I am part of the Halloween industrial complex” and will be laughing for 31 years.
The fact that most guys’ first response to a woman wanting equality is “SO CAN I HIT U NOW” is sort of terrifying
Like that’s the first thing you’re concerned about? I just want equal pay and you want to punch me in the face? Cool cool

A group of crows is called a murder.
Highland cows have to be very close before they’ll share secrets (because it’s hard to hear with such hairy ears).
